When you're using the battle bar (a.k.a the toolbar), you might perceive it daunting, as it's hard to actually earn a reasonable amount of AC, what with the whole 10:1 ratio and all. But I've been studying the process of how it earns you your AC's. Although, I'm not 100% sure about this conjecture. But it's still interesting to note these things anyway.
Okay, so I search for "aq worlds" on the toolbar, and I get to the results page. Pay close attention to the explanation below:
Okay, so I search for "aq worlds" on the toolbar, and I get to the results page. Pay close attention to the explanation below:
http://search.freecause.com/search?ourmark=1&fr=freecause&ei=utf-8&type=59925&p=aq%20worlds
type=59925 is the id of the toolbar that the AQW staff signed up to, so this one really is impertinent (I think).
p=aq%20worlds okay, so p= is where your search entry comes in. The space between "aq" and "worlds" in the search is automatically converted to "%20" so no need to worry.
Other than that, if you click on one of the search links... well, duh, you'll go to where it links to; but if you look closely at the Status Bar (the party where a bar shows up to show the progress of your page loading), a different URL pops up! Pointing to the search result, "AdventureQuest Worlds: Web Browser Massively Multiplayer Game", I got this URL:
http://search.freecause.com/?rm=click&mod=sponsored&url=http%3A%2F%2Frc10.overture.com%2Fd%2Fsr%2F%3Fxargs%3D15KPjg1gpSt5auwuf0L%255FiXEbqUkwwBl5Sw8cIde5Vwa6AognFvUfYuPa7By%255FVIau1l7wekuPaWiNRiOqz2n%255F%252DUFBCMRlSXG%252DD5yt2QwNp8Juj%252DG40TkeJ50fbZrpENKi5Qb26nKIWzyKyZdYWoej0ekcxWnF%255FKpec%255FhcK%252D07ZGHbvOiQh1%252D0qGLMNAqeAjntOEbt0XG%255FPhRuXajXXJLYNWmpp4kPv1MyEzGBs%252E&clicktype=2&userid=14651297&toolid=59925&stype=Yahoo&username=kuyerjudd
It's interesting to note that it registers your username where it says username=. Also note that part that I made bold in the URL above is actually the usual "aq.com". So I figure that it needs to convert the search results URL into another URL? Notice the part I italicized? Overture.com is part of Yahoo!. Moving along, we've got the toolid= once more, and we've got userid= which I suppose is the id of the toolbar you downloaded. And finally, I think clicktype= means where you clicked the link from. Seeing as it does say 2, it must mean clicking from a search result?
All in all, I think actually clicking on a search result has something to do with the searches the toolbar registers... or maybe I'm over-dramaticizing what is just an innocent statistic notation of which sites a user visits? LOL.
It was fun trying to play Sherlock Holmes. I'm ready for this week's release, I suppose.
Editor's Note:
Oh well. I thought I'd share my misadventure of an attempt at trying to figure out the toolbar's glyphics. LOL. And by the way, Overture.com is a "Tool that gives search terms related to a particular query and how many times those terms were searched on last month". See? It's totally harmless. I don't know what I was thinking! It's a waste to just delete this hunk of text. It's laugh-out-loud material anyway, so, yeah... .
